ALERGY SHOTS
Alergy shots are also known as the allergy immunotherapy which is used for increasing the body’s resistance to the elements – allergens that cause allergic symptoms. Allergy shots are generally recommended for the persons suffering from severe alergies or for those people having allergy symptoms for over 3 months each year. The allergy shots are not meant for curing your allergies but they in fact decrease the body’s sensitivity to various substances or allergens.

Allergies shots are usually administered at regular intervals in the upper arm positions, with gradual increase of dosage. Initially while starting the allergy shots, the person has to visit his doctor frequently for a few months. The dosage is increased every time until the required schedule of dose is administered.

At least for 2 hours before and after taking of the allergy shots the person should not indulge into any vigorous activities. The exercise may stimulate raised blood flow to the tissues promoting quicker discharge of antigens into the blood streams.

After taking the alergies shots, the person is required to be monitored for at least half an hour to ensure that he is not experiencing any side effects like: itchy eyes, shortness of breath, runny nose or throat congestion. However, redness or swelling or even irritation within 1 inch area of the injection spot is common and such symptoms normally vanish within 4 to 8 hours after taking the shots.

The efficacy of such alergy shots or immunotherapy varies according to the harshness of the person’s allergic conditions, besides the number of elements to which the person is allergic.
