PETS & CATS ALLERGIES |
Human has been maintaining companionship with
various pets like cats, dogs, birds, hamsters, rabbits, mice,
gerbils, rats, guinea pigs, horses, goats, cows, chickens and geese
most of which may happen to cause allergic reactions as their hair
can easily collect pollens, dust, mold and other allergens that
easily travel into our homes. Even the skins and saliva of pets and
cats may lead to cause alergies in many cases. Allergies due to pets
and cats amounts to almost 10% in the United States as per the
available statistics and with nearly 100,000,000 domestic creatures
in the nation many of the Americans exhibit animal related
reactions.
Domestic animal alergy can greatly affect our eyes, nose, ears,
throats, lungs and skins. Reddened or inflamed skin areas are one of
the most usual symptom developed due to scratch or lick of the cats.
The rashes appearing on the face, neck or upper body show the
allergies related to the respiratory systems. Such conditions
normally develops within 15 to 40 minutes after exposure, anyway its
reaction may occur after some days of exposure too. The most
commonly reported alergic symptoms caused by pets and cats include:
red – itchy or swollen eyes, reddened skin areas, runny nose, nasal
congestion, sneezing, ears getting stuffed-up or itchy, post nasal
drips, itching and hoarseness in the throat, coughing, wheezing and
even development of bronchitis.
The normal treatment of the alergies for animal related symptoms may
be same as those suggested for other types of allergic reactions,
like: medications that include: bronchodilators, oral
antihistamines, corticosteroids as well as topical nasal steroids.
Even immunotherapy which includes injections by slowly enhancing its
dose sizes besides inclusion of extracts of probable allergens is
also applied for developing required resistance to the likely
allergens in the body.
